Armless Bipedal Cycloptic Demon (ABCD) Bios

There's a lot of ABCD characters in the ASMT series, many of which were designed in groups by raocow. This page will serve as an index for them with brief summaries, links back to their original bios posted on the talkhaus or other reference material, the games they've appeared in, and other such info... at least until we can get a proper non-Fandom wiki set up. (Page currently under construction)

(Also, DISCLAIMER: much of this page's contents are based on the development cycle and story of A2XT Episode 2 and the projects preceding it. The lore and specific character details here could all be retconned, rebooted, or otherwise rendered moot by future games in the series!)

ABCDs in general

Several ABCD soldiers from the Grand Rebellion
(art by Dizzybelle)

ABCDs are a subspecies of space demon whose defining traits are, as their names suggest, a lack of arms, two legs, and a single large eye without any other facial features. However, their physiology can vary wildly, sometimes in physics-defying ways, and ABCDs undergo further mutations and gain new powers as they mature through a process called Specialization; as such, not all ABCDs fit all three of these criteria. Another common trait of ABCDs is a susceptibility to mind control, though any controlled ABCDs can be broken out of it.

There are two main categories of ABCDs in the series: natural and artificial. Natural ABCDs mostly existed prior to the events of the series and had a thriving civilization throughout the universe before their enslavement by the Space Masters of Space. The ABCDs fought back against their captors in a war known as the Great Cyclops Grand Rebellion (or just Grand Rebellion for short), but the conflict ultimately ended in what was assumed to be their complete annihilation. Small groups survived the apparent extinction, however, and are beginning to emerge as the series develops further.

Also we kiiinda established a multiverse? So really all bets are off at this point.

Artificial ABCDs are created through a cloning process pioneered by the mysterious evil scientist known as the Artist and his contemporaries. Early attempts were unstable with premature mutations, unusual voice qualities, and other unintended traits, but the creation process was eventually refined until the resulting ABCDs had negligible biological differences from natural ABCDs.

Main Groups

Demo and Iris standing amid mushrooms
(art by raocow)

The two main protagonists of the series. Demo and Iris were created together as the culmination of the Artist's efforts to create the perfect ABCD minions long after the Space Masters wiped the ABCD race out. After somehow breaking free of their mind control, the twins escaped his laboratory and eventually found themselves work as voluntary, high-ranking members of a Space Master's crew. Their surname comes from the cloning vat they were grown in.

Demo Roseclair

Demo's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The namesake of the Demo Krew, Demo is a straightforward young woman -- goal-oriented, determined, and all around a big-picture type. While she doesn't rush into situations recklessly, she also doesn't care for needless fluff or complexities like backstories or multi-step plans. When she's on a mission she often disregards or outright ignores anything she considers irrelevant to her current objective, and she has a tendency to be brutally honest; as such Demo can be insensitive, but not out of malice or contempt like Iris.

For the most part Demo isn't interested in relationships, especially romantic ones. She does have friends and family she's pretty chummy with, however, including her pet dog Pal and her Uncle Broadsword.

Iris Roseclair

Iris' base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

Sneaky and intellectual, Iris prefers thinking her way through her battles and using tools and weapons like knives. While she's fairly reserved most of the time, she can be even more impatient than her sister when it comes to things she considers pointless nonsense and won't hesitate to voice her opinions as long as doing so isn't too disadvantageous.

Iris is fully capable of being tactful toward those she respects and trusts... it's just that not many people fall under that category. This includes the Space IRS, so she tends to procrastinate on doing her taxes or pawn them off on others. In fact, because Iris cares so little for what others think of her she will sometimes neglect her personal hygiene to the point where she smells like garlic. She does, however, have an affinity for catllamas and keeps several of them -- all named Catnip -- as pets.

Demo and Iris together with the Siblings
(art by raocow)

The ABCDs made by the Artist before he created Demo and Iris. raocow designed them to serve as the main villain group of A2MT, but due to that project's cancellation the Siblings were repurposed to serve as the antagonists for the second half of A2XT Episode 1.

While Demo and Iris escaped the Artist's control early on, the Siblings remained his minions until all but Garish were captured by a communist scientist and trapped in suspended animation. After Garish tricked Demo, Iris, and their companions into freeing the others, the Siblings immediately began hunting the Demo Krew to recapture them for the Artist but were freed from their mind control one by one. Like the twins, most of the Siblings got their last names from the vats they were grown in; Garish, however, chose his for himself.

Science Fiction

Science's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The self-appointed leader of the group and the oldest of the Siblings. His body deteriorated shortly after his creation leaving only his eye so the Artist gave him a UFO as a replacement body; the limited speech capabilities of the machine meant he was unable to speak more than a few words at a time, but it enabled Science to satisfy his curiosity through rigorous study. He has developed a superiority complex over his knowledge and technical aptitude, but his social skills are still lacking and what was once a hardware limitation has developed into a speech impediment even after improving his speech capabilities by replacing and upgrading his UFO multiple times.

Science currently operates his own lab with a fancy gamer computer that he uses to play the Civilization series and research modern slang. He also takes on odd jobs to try and find a potential romantic partner; he's currently looking for "a guy who can match [his] vast intellect", to limited success.

Garish "Johnson" McCain

Garish's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The self-proclaimed leader of the Siblings and third ABCD created by the Artist after Science and Pandamona. Garish's body is a slimy mass as a result of the composite elements he was made with, giving him something of an affinity toward goopas; he is also a staunch objectivist, heavily militaristic, and extremely egotistical, which are particularly dangerous traits for someone who commands a large army of loyal cycloptic goopas. Fortunately, he is easily conned into figurehead positions and spends much more of his army's resources on propaganda and self-promotion than he does on actual conquest.

Pily Wataharu

Pily's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The self-proclaimed perfect ABCD and the sixth member of the Siblings. She has fire powers and inconsistent immunity to heat and lava depending on the writers (and available technology), as well as a formidable cannonball bounce attack and even the ability to grow into a flaming kaiju if she eats enough salad. Pily is prideful in her own power and style but not a braggart about it, being secure in the knowledge that her awesomeness is an immutable fact and not feeling the need to linger on the matter; she does, however, have a bit of a temper as well as a tendency to singe first and ask questions later. She's also a conspiracy theorist, a fact that wasn't exactly helped by an evil organization calling itself The Government attempting a hostile takeover of Christmas.

As of A2XT Episode 2 Pily has maintained a healthy romantic relationship with a certain aquatic reptile companion of Demo and Iris. She's even rescued him from certain doom on occasion, including the previously-mentioned Government incident.

Pandamona Tyson

Pandamona's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The second ABCD created by the Artist, a paranoid and unstable girl obsessed with her own power. While under the Artist's mind control she was forced to wear boxes and copy machines to limit her power, so she augmented her combat abilities with feats of robotics and necromantic magic. After being defeated by Demo and Iris on the Anti-Nirvana planet she went into hiding and began setting up an underground cloning operation...

...at least, one version of her did. In another universe, Pandamona cast off her box and destroyed a machine keeping that reality intact. These two Pandamonas were eventually merged, but not before the rogue Pandamona gained a new "ultimate" form by temporarily anchoring herself to a powerful artifact (it's a whole thing.) She can probably still tap into that form through buffs or just getting really, really angry, but I mean... she's already a powerful sorceress who probably has a multidisciplinary doctorate. Does she really need to be any more OP? (Yes, of course, why are you even asking that)

Mishi Verahcen-Duchamp

Mishi's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The fifth ABCD created by the Artist, a dour and cynical Hollywood nihilist with psychic powers. She is particularly skilled at telekinesis with household appliances being her weapons of choice. While under the Artist's mind control she conquered a castle on the Technically Not a Planet Just a Ball of Atmosphere, then erased herself from existence to spite Demo and Iris; her nonexistence was later undone when the twins and their companions broke the timestream and began fixing it, and she resigned herself to a life of being in the same material plane as Calleoca's fanfics.

Despite hating the world and nearly everyone inside, there are some aspects of life Mishi does find pleasure in -- primarily in fashion, John Lennon, and tormenting others. Especially ants. She likes to teach them how to feel pain.

Nevada Artemisia

Nevada's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The fourth ABCD created by the Artist, a timid carnivore who is part plant and thus extremely empathetic toward, and protective of, all other plant life. She has formed a pact with an eldritch deity known as the Flesh Lord and can summon incarnations of her at will to aid in combat; they rarely do this, however, as he deems most conflict unnecessary and prefers to avoid it when possible. Nevada does make an exception for seafood, however, as she seeks to fish all fish to extinction out of a profound and inexplicable hatred for all things piscine.

Calleoca Akibake

Calleoca's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

The seventh ABCD created by the Artist, a sassy and sanguine girl obsessed with all things Japanese. While under the Artist's mind control Calleoca spied on Demo, Iris and company throughout their journey before ambushing them on the Planet of Non-Diurnal Content. She has slight reality-warping powers but her primary abilities are interdimensional travel and shapeshifting; she is able to change into any object, creature, or person she needs, the only limitation being that she can never have more than one eye. She can, however, give herself a mouth, and does so often specifically to make cat smiles at people.

Since freed from her brainwashing, Calleoca has been up to all sorts of mischief, including (but not limited to) collecting pet penguins, mentoring others in creative writing, taking over a section of the Chronoton Grand Archive, maintaining a fairly-successful vtuber career, and even moonlighting as Santa Claus that one time Pandamona accidentally nuked the North Pole.

The Uncles
(art by raocow)

A brotherhood of old friends and survivors from the war against the Space Masters that banded together under Broadsword's leadership. They acted as adoptive uncles to Demo and Iris while secretly working toward a plot to rewrite history for the sake of bringing back the ABCD race.

Augustus Leopold Broadsword III Esq.

Broadsword's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

A spirited traveling swordsman who wields the golden sword Brynhilde. He lived a long life of adventures and get-rich-quick schemes before settling down in a quiet village, only to survive an attack by the Space Masters of Space on his hometown due to being away at the time. Broadsword would go on to become an accomplished fighter in the Grand Rebellion, meeting the other Uncles along the way.

Long after the war ended, Broadsword wandered the universe seeking other survivors until he came across Demo and Iris as babies; from that point on he became Demo's beloved Uncle Broadsword, occasionally visiting her to share stories of his exploits and and sneak her away for new adventures. His poorly-masked favoritism, however, fostered envy and resentment in Iris.

Though he led the Uncles in their plan to restore the ABCD race, Broadsword ultimately prioritized Demo's safety over the plan to the point of being overprotective of her. After his sworn brothers attempted to eliminate the twins (and Iris subsequently beat him up), Broadsword defected from the other Uncles and helped the Demo Krew try to stop the plan; this culminated in Broadsword sacrificing himself to stop Pumpernickel from destroying reality and ending up stuck in a pocket dimension. He eventually escaped one Christmas when Calleoca noclipped out of a doctor's waiting room and hit a Broadsword switch block in order to solve a puzzle.

Despite his namesake, Broadsword's sword skills are entirely self-taught. His actual specialization is being able to utilize hats as powerups, though he can also still use vegetables as powerups due to prolonged exposure to Demo in the occasional vicinity of Iris.

Eugene Horatio @sbestos

@sbestos' base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

A kind-natured rubbery ABCD with the natural ability to inflate himself like a balloon and a passion for paperwork and other boring busywork. As the "in-law" of the Uncles he's desperate to fit in and readily accepts the task of deterring the twins, only to be completely and utterly curbstomped.

When Broadsword denounces the Uncles' plan @sbestos finds the strength to defect alongside him, choosing to follow his own moral compass over continuing to try and win the others' favor.

Robert "Bobby" Denmark

Denmark's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

A laid-back schmoozer with a sharp business sense and a penchant for partying. He also has a competitive edge that drives him to show off his dance moves and swimming Specialization, and has further willed himself into having hydrokinetic powers for the sake of flaunting those skills anywhere at any time. During the events of A2XT2 he conspires with Uncle Rewind to sabotage Demo's and Iris' efforts in restoring time when they visit his beachside resort and later sticks with the Uncles after Broadsword and @sbestos defect, only to give up on the ABCD restoration plan after the krew defeated Pumpernickle and shut down their reality-destroying machine.

Regulus Ratchet Rewind

Rewind's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

A meticulous and prideful biomechanical ABCD with the powers of localized time manipulation and viewing others' timestreams. As an ABCD supremacist he is extremely prejudiced against artificial and weak ABCDs, viewing them as an insult to "true" ABCDs. During the events of A2XT2 he runs a leek-canning operation to provide fuel for the Uncles' plan and schemes behind Broadsword's back to try and eliminate Demo and Iris; when Demo, Iris, and Broadsword later infiltrate the cannery he attempts to eliminate the twins, only to be thoroughly trounced and left in a time-mangled state he will need "aeons" to recover from.

Maximillion Pumpernickle

Pumpernickle's base sprite in A2XT Episode 2

A cartoony and chaotic Armless Quadrupedal Cycloptic Demon (AQCD) who manipulate the other Uncles into creating an apocalyptic machine to reboot all of existence so he could "become the universe". While pretending to be an ABCD he takes the appearance of a large armored turtle and masks his true personality with a sophisticated air, a ruthless ethos, and disdain directed toward whichever scapegoat the people he's trying to manipulate hate. Upon being defeated, Pumpernickle's eyeball bursts and his true form emerges: a smog-like eldritch entity known as Tumulta Gloria.

Pumpernickle acted as the second-in-command of the Uncles until Broadsword defected, at which point he assumed leadership of the group. When the Demo Krew infiltrated the R.E.B.O.O.T. he revealed his true colors to them and fought them in the control room; after his defeat there, Pump moved on to an attempt to overload the machine the krew were using to restore time. He was ultimately ejected into a pocket dimension with Broadsword due to the latter's intervention and slowly learned how to play chess to pass the time in there. Supposedly he's still in there, but since Broadsword was able to escape through nonsense shenanigans there's no telling if we've really seen the last of this guy...

The Elders
(art by raocow)

A set of ancient and powerful space demons which all ABCDs are thought to be descended from. raocow designed them as bosses for A2XT Episode 3 during Episode 2's development and named them after what he considered to be the four major evils of level design. The Elders have yet to make direct appearances in the games, but their presence has already been established in the series.

Grandfather Wind

A mural depicting Wind in A2XT Episode 2

"by far the most evil of the bunch, dude just really hates the concept of joy and goes out of his way to eliminate it from the world. At least he used to, until he realised that removing joy from the world actually brought HIM some joy. He thought about stopping, but then it would just create more joy in the world - after thinking about it for a bit, he thought of a plan to seal himself into complete stasis, and with that a process that has an exactly 50% chance of also sealing the world in its entirety in pure stasis, the idea being that if there is nothing, there is no joy. However by having the second part of this plan having a fifty percent failure rate, he would be still be uncertain as to if it would end successfully upon his own stasising, and this make sure he didn't feel any joy out of the whole thing." -raocow

Grandma Generator

A statue depicting Generator in Broadsword Goes Christmas Shopping

"way into hiphop" -raocow

Nana Doormaze

"strives to achieve perfect neutrality within herself, and avoids any and all conflicts. A pretty good signer, has a range going from contrabasoon to harpsicord. Some say that she actually attached some of her 'song' to pieces of the universe itself, and that certain demons perfectly atuned to the world can here them, like some kind of background music. PRETTY WEIRD THAT." -raocow

While Doormaze herself has yet to appear in any capacity, A2XT Episode 2 mentions the Melody as a phenomenon that religions have been formed around, with roughly 2 out of every 15 people being attuned to it.

Papi Earthquake

"not his original body - found out that if he transposed his will into meat it increased his powers by a thousand-fold. Is called 'papi hamboney' by his many grandchildren." -raocow

Other ABCDs designed or approved by raocow

Serac's redesign
(art by raocow)

Originated as a possibly-glitched placeholder graphic in A2MT. She was redesigned into an ABCD (?) and given an officially-sanctioned backstory by KobaBeach, which was later expanded on by A2XT Episode 1 to make her an eldritch, death-obsessed resident of Zebraspace.

Original Demo(n) doodle
(art by raocow)

The Shadow to Demo's Sonic. She was created by raocow in the spotzone Discord server in response to the idea of turning the Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest costume "Demo With a Gun" into its own character, and made her debut in A2XT Gaiden 2 as a minor Government agent who later started helping Science in his lab.

Groups for future projects

The Second Cousins
(art by raocow)

A team of ABCDs who were made by a rival of the Artist and have some sort of connection to the Elders. raocow designed them for A2XT Episode 3 during Episode 2's development in order to round out the boss roster.

Tesseract

Okay technically this one's not a fan ABCD, it's a magikoopa resprite shown in one of raocow's old What the Hell development videos. I have zero clue whether they're actually in that game. Was named Tesseract and assigned the specialization of umami by KobaBeach.

Tosco

A fan ABCD by Kitet posted in the talkhaus' Demo fan art thread during A2XT2's development based on a dream they had. Tosco can transform the trumpet attached to their face into wind instruments, and the end-of-level trumpet sounds are Tosco's music echoing throughout history.

The residents of Uncle Broadsword's hometown as seen in A2XT Episode 2. They disappeared during a Space Master attack on the village while Broadsword was adventuring in the woods, and while they were implied to have been killed or captured their ultimate fates are unknown.

The sprites for Bud, Wiris, and Wademo in A2XT Episode 2

The Wario and Waluigi to Demo's and Iris' Mario and Luigi -- they even have a dog named Bud! Wademo resents those kinds of comparisons, though. Despite being a somewhat popular duo, their only game appearance so far is a brief cameo in A2XT Episode 2.

Ee attempting to scrape out any final traces of mayonnaise from an empty jar
(art by Chaoxys)

An ABCD from another universe who likes to wear different costumes. In addition to her sour and selfish attitude, her specialization of Being The Worst generally manifests as the fabric of reality bending over backwards to enable the worst possible outcome for others or otherwise make her as obnoxious as possible to them. In Superb Demo Survivors she accidentally frees the Legal Guardians and enlists their help in locating mayonnaise and waging war against the Demo Krew, serving as the main antagonist and end boss of the game's demo. Another iteration of her somewhere in the multiverse directs the Aunts.

Clockwise from top: Oob, Tas, PB, Ace
(art by Rixi)

A group of powerful but eccentric ABCDs from another plane of existence that were created to become the ultimate babysitters. They were locked up in an interdimensional prison for babysitting crimes but freed when Ee accidentally opened a tear in reality by clinking a knife around in an empty jar.

Oob

A lanky, noodly fellow who can use hard surfaces to phase in and out of reality. They're very sensitive, but him being a big softie will not stop them from sneak-attacking you. Oob was made to be a baby monitor but ended up being overbearing, not just toward the baby that they were assigned to but all infants and young children in an [EXPUNGED]-mile radius; as a result, they became the monster in the closet/under the bed for a lot of people in their childhoods. He also made building the prison particularly difficult because they’d constantly escape to go get a glass of water.

Ace

Very fast and can interface with electronics. They were made to be a playmate/toy, but possibly due to faulty wiring they have moments of sudden hyperactivity and play way too rough.

Tas

Being some kind of mix between goat, sheep, poodle, and grapes, she has the powers of all of them combined. Tas was made to assist with and teach household chores; she became particularly fond of yardwork and ended up being imprisoned for a combination of extreme gardening and a very loose definition of what constitutes a yard.

PB

This one has the power of being an ABCD with feet and the extra dexterity that entails. PB was made to promote healthy eating habits but got locked up with the rest of the LGs after an incident involving machine-gunning granola bars at children in the mall.

From left to right: Stillwaters, Trial, Cakepan, CaSo, Mochi
(sprites by Chaoxys)

A mob of middle-aged mercenaries on Ee's payroll. The Aunts were originally slated to be bosses in the cancelled Demo Plays A Role Game project, which would have adapted Chaoxys' Paper Demo AU into a full Paper Mario clone; two of them still managed to get a cameo appearance in A2XT2. Of no relation to Aunt Rifle.

Auntie Stillwaters

She was born with a body, and an eye, but no head. One day her eye fell into a pond and a fish tried to eat it, but it got stuck in it's mouth, so she now uses it as a head. The two have since become the best of friends.

Aunt CaSo IV

She's a bit childish compared to the other aunts. She can change her face with her chalk, often attempting to disguise herself to limited effect; she can also bring her drawings to life, but they aren't very strong as they're made of chalk.

Trial

A mysterious ABCD who goes on about how she went on lots of adventures back in her day and saved the world with her friends. She often tries to hint that she's actually Demo from the future, however she may just be a random bum that enjoys screwing with people.

Aunt Mochi

She likes to dig in the dirt, so much so that you'll rarely see her out of the ground. She's a bit forgetful sometimes and quick to anger, although her anger usually stems from her forgetting something. She may invite you into her house only to lash out, demanding to know why you broke into her house because she has already forgotten she let you in.

Aunt Cakepan

A prim and proper ABCD made of art supplies. She can cut up inorganic matter into small blocks and then control them, making them form giant sprites that she can use to attack with; however, she tends to use this ability to make statues more than anything. Cakepan is actually an alias: her real name is Sincrafts, but she's embarrassed by it.
